Concrete floors are poured

Wednesday September 16, 2009

The slab which will form the floor of the building and support the interior walls was poured on Monday. Because the concrete trucks can only access the front of the building, a pumping truck with a long boom was necessary for the pour. The mixing truck off loads into the pumper and the concrete emerges from the end of the hose on the boom. It is directed by the crew to the right spots.

As soon as the concrete cured sufficiently, saw cuts were made to serve as expansion joints. As the building will have a finished concrete floor, further cuts were made for aesthetic reasons.

The next step is to begin framing the exterior walls, which is scheduled to begin shortly.

Tours of the construction site coming soon

The foundation has been poured and the floor will go in early this week. Framing will start shortly after that.

The building site is off-limits to everyone but the professional construction team, however we will offer guided tours of the site on September 27th and October 18th after the service.

The one thing ledge is good for is providing overlooks for hikers, and Glen Frederick has made a small trail through the woods to an outcropping with a wonderful vantage point of the site. Wear walking shoes.

If you want to see progress but don't wish to walk on the trail, you'll be able to look from the driveway. Look for Glen after the service on these two dates.

From Rick High:

Friday, September 11, 2009

Under slab plumbing and electric work continued throughout the week. Insulation and reinforcing wire are in place. The sub slab soil has been tested for compaction and the work has been inspected.

We expect to pour the floor on Monday, Sept. 14 and framing is scheduling to begin on Thursday.

Foundations completed.

Foundations were completed on Friday, August 28. Insulation is being put in place on the outside of the foundation walls down to the footings and will be backfilled this week.

On the interior of the foundation walls the soil is being compacted. The drain pipes that serve the kitchen, bathrooms, and janitor’s closet will be positioned, along with the piping for the radon remediation system. Stone will be placed on top of the compacted soil. Insulation will be placed upon the stone layer. Once all is in proper position, next week the concrete grade beams and slab will be poured.
